The JAG program is the primary provider of Federal criminal justice funding for eligible state and local jurisdictions to support a wide range of crime prevention and intervention activities based on local needs and conditions. This solicitation is for a disparate of Sussex County agencies, with recommended allocations of $11,592.00 to the Town of Georgetown.

Projected use of funds for the Town's JAG application will be for the purchase of (2) Motorola APX6500 Enhanced 7/800 MHZ mobile radios.

Motorola Mobile Radios, Model APX6500

Motorola radios have served the Town of Georgetown for over 30 years. With expanding technologies and capabilities, they continue to enhance officer safety but also public safety. Changes in technology result in better communication and coordination between each unit regardless of assignment. This quality communication is evident in the event of a large-scale emergency event. Interagency communication is necessary, but it is also important that the communication across disciplines (Fire, EMS, Police) occurs seamlessly. Portable radios have the advantage of mobility however, mobile radios transmit and receive with more reliability. While increased reliability comes at a price, the benefits to the public at large and the officers responsible for their safety far the financial burden.

By upgrading to the most current technology in emergency communication devices, we are ensuring that under the most trying of circumstances, lack of communication will not hinder our efforts in providing the best services to our community.
